a couple of my friends in high school shot themselves in the leg
to get out of Nam. I was probably the only one who didn't treat
them like pariahs. I knew what they went through.

I joined the AF at 17 and volunteered for B-26 duty in Korea. The AF wanted to send me to language school at Syracuse University.

I guess that's why I have a whole different attitude about serving in combat from what you do. I wasn't forced into it.

for a lot of guys after they got out. I went to the VA in 1970
and got treated like *** and told that there was no coverage for
a "police action". I had to dragged kicking and bitching to a
VA in 2001.

I retired in '72 and the VA conveniently lost most of my medical records. On my last visit in '76 they fried my spinal cord and I haven't been back.

Incidentally, it was Clinton and the Democrats who froze our COLA in their first budget (1993). Bush's budget for the VA is up 80% from what Clinton was spending.

We created the taliban. We gave the weapons to the Afgani
