Bruce is just a target of the moment. Too much government is a
problem, but I don't want the alternative. It's too bad it's
impossible to clean up gov't detritus like putting in a new hard
drive and reinstalling only essential programs in a PC. Personal
responsibility, particularly when it involves matters affecting
many, cannot be relied upon.

I don't see Bruce as a target. He has volunteered as a
spokesperson for one extreme point of view. Unfortunately, if I was
relying solely on Bruce I would get the idea that the only
advantage of the position he espouses is a rather illusionary idea
of freedom. When closely examined it appears that he just wants to
substitute one form of control for another. Instead of deciding
things by majority rule they would be decided by those with money
and property.

I meant Bruce was MY target of the moment. His was the last
of many blathers I read before PC shutdown that night.

Consider Adam Smith's _Wealth of Nations_ where he wrote about the
effects of the division of labour:

"This separation, too, is generally called furthest in those
countries which enjoy the highest degree of industry and improvement;
what is the work of one man in a rude state of society being
generally that of several in an improved one."

Imagine the "rude state of society" if rules are not followed and
workers given freedom to do what they want when they want. Management
has found that a certain amount of freedom for employees in certain
areas is more productive; however, without guidelines (laws again) --
chaos! BTW, it's not just laborers who should have and obey rules --
think Enron and others of that ilk.

True freedom cannot be bought by money and property.

GB's mine safety question SNIP . . .
I doubt that you'll find many people espousing Bruce's form of
libertarianism down in
the mines.

LOL! Right on!
