Right. I agree. The only thing that will ease our reliance on foreignNO! NO! NO! NO! You CAN NOT "conserve" yourself to self-sufficiency!
oil is to REDUCE OUR CONSUMPTION. If that means federally mandating
That's simply liberal dogma for "I'm gonna control your car!" As a step in
the, "I'm gonna control all aspects of your life!", direction.
As long as folks keep on havin' babies, and doin' it in numbers that cause
an increase in population YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO CONSERVE YOURSELF TO
ENERGY (or anything else) SELF-SUFFICIENCY!!!!! Can't be done. Not ever!
What about that is so hard for the liberal dill-weeds we're inundated with
to grasp? Yes! Conservation is a valuable step in the right direction.
But it's a short-term "gap-filler", and only a fool would think it's the
ultimate panacea. It! Is! Not! It doesn't matter how draconian you make
noxious government regulations, you can not mandate a vehicle small or
insipid enough, light-bulbs dim enough, or bicycles sleek enough to relieve
our energy dependence on the rag-heads that have us by the short-hairs (a
"problem" of our own making, BTW).
Oil is used because, today anyway, it's the cheapest most easily implemented
form of mobile energy and source of raw materials. As long as that
continues to be the case, it will be used in that manner. Will our
"in-ground" oil run out? Possibly...probably even certainly. But not this
afternoon or tonight! And until it does, and it becomes a real crises--as
opposed to a made up one (like Global warming, Ozone hole, DDT,
etc.)--NOBODY is going to DO ANYTHING about it! Unless you call all of the
hoopla (movies, world-wide concerts, books, fund-raising 'eco-speeches',
etc.) around those issues, solutions--I don't! As you have so clearly
demonstrated, there will always be dim-bulbs that can be molded into the
useful idiots that socialism always requires in order to exist and expand
its tentacles into ever more of our lives. And that's all this
"energy-crisis" of it's corollary "global warming" is about; social control.
Nothing else!
fuel efficient cars, recycling, and the nationwide ban on gassTwo contradictions right here. First, "greenus90" sez, "I think ...", when

that's demonstrably false; and then he sez "... government has a role..."
another statement based on fantasy!
When has the government EVER done anything besides obstruct, obfuscate the
problem and/or solution, and then tax the outcome? Tell me what the
high-points of SS, the EPA, "war on poverty", "war on drugs", Medicaid, and
so on; are? Trillion$ have been spent, and nothing worthwhile has resulted.
Or are you actually saying here in front of this entire assembly that those
programs are so wonderful, successful, and excellently administered that you
want more of that? How narcissistic and totally ignorant of his environs
can one person get? An entire federal government and all of the engineering
and financial resources at its disposal can not even manage to build a
simple fence to keep out the riff-raff! Why should they? When they can
continue to beat the idiot voters over the head with hollow promises of
solutions...sans any real effort or progress...but requiring the expenditure
of considerable monies.
responsibility here to act. That is, if we want a future, which oilThere will indeed be a future, and it may well be one without hydrocarbons.
WONT be a part of eventually.
But there is nothing you can do today--short of inventing a
replacement--that will "solve" that eventuality. Saying that it's our "...
responsibility [to] act here ..." isn't a solution, it's a talking point.
And unless the rules of chemistry or physics have markedly changed since I
last used them, talking points are cheap *and* won't run my generator--no
matter how earnestly or eloquently spoken.
The first thing you have to do, "greenus90", is grow up. And while you're
doing that, grow a brain. Then begin to use it. Use it to learn. And use
that learning to find a solution...as opposed to copping out to a nanny
state. Most of the great achievements in history have been done by
individuals working for their own gain. Become part of the search for a
solution as opposed to being part of the apathetic problem. I make
bio-diesel. It's not a perfect solution...but I made it to learn both the
process and the problems. I learned that when I do the math, we can't grow
enough "stuff" to become "energy-independent" on the back of bio-diesel.
There just ain't enough arable land. I built a fusion generator (not all
that hard). I learned that you can't get the energy out in a useful manner
(not yet anyway). It's hard to build your own "pile", and takes too much
money to build a TDP plant, so I've eschewed those for the moment (you
should all be applauding...(:-o)!). I've explored hydrogen, wind, solar,
and water power. They all have a place, but NONE are *a* or *the*
"solution" for our energy needs. But one thing is certain, more government
regulations ARE NOT going to accomplish anything...unless, societal control
is your only goal...
Oh well, "the tour" is over...and I've gotta get back to figgerin' things
out...(:-o)!

Dusty
