Where are you? Up here in the muggy north, the prices are better than
that. Internals going for $40, externals $100-120. However, I have a
laptop so all bets are off. They'll soak me for a replacement drive
and labour. I'd never attempt to install anything in a laptop,
At my sisters in the Baltimore MD area at the moment, was on the "left"
coast for last 25 years and travelled around for most of that.. Fraid I
only have like 6 notebooks and a few pda's now, didn't even know they still
make those clunky desktops, they were a nitemare to move :) Am having fun
playing with her high speed cable, have a bunch of wap/routers and about 2
TeraBytes of network storage, looking for stuff to fill it up (hence the
later reference to a binary news reader).
My philosophy is never get in a price war, so I only gave the price for the
one in my gateway notebook. Seems like someone can always find it cheaper/on
sale, whole idea was to just point out that they are usually cheaper for
desktops, and even the one for my notebook (aha, that me be part of the
confusion, my gateway is a notebook! Actually it's a tablet/notebook combo,
it's really cool)
If you're still suffering from talking book envy you should check
out the binaries groups, unless you have a moral problem with that.
alt.binaries.mp3.audiobooks.highspeed would be one to check. I know
folks who get books there.
Been trying to mess with the giganews binary newsreader, it's either a poor
program, or very non intuitive and confusing, got any recommendations for a
good one? That also won't let me see a few groups that I KNOW are there (I
can add em in outlook express, and see the groups/messages, but can't seem
to add em to the giganewsreader program, idea was to not only get the single
mp3's, but also be able to combine video stuff)
Have you tried: Opera, SeaMonkey, and/or 'Agent' (the pay version from Forte,
the folks that also make 'free agent')?
Also, look around for "knews", and/or "xnews".
One of those should be to your liking.
