Re: OT: McAfee Question

Hi Janet

I use McAfee myself and that is a change from when I used Norton. It seems to run smoother and take up less memory. I used the full deal and it works great but then that is just my opinion. It also came with my Gateway.

Hey all it is doing is backing up your files in case of a crash. The archive can be set up to save what ever you want including the photos and other items you consider important. I am putting in a 2d HD just for backups in case of a crash. I will let it archive to it instead of CD's or DVD's. McAfee periodically will back up any new or changed material which would be a quick archive. Save the disks in case of a crash and if you do just put them up and do a restore just run the disks and it will take you back to the last time you archived or saved your HD.

One thing about the program it does it automatically and sometimes "I" do forget or just put it off as I have done of late and that could be disastrous. If you are one of those who would not do that then your own back up files should be sufficient and you could disable MsAfee as far as backing up your files.

I don't really want to hear what some one else has is better than McAfee. I like it and I never let it do anything other than it's virus and firewall job. I NEVER will let it "clean" my computer or other tricks.

The other day I noticed it wanting to do an "archive" I checked the help and there wasn't much info. After a week or two of prompting me to do this, I decided to try it. I did the full archive and I now have two CDs with the files. It appears to have copied the usual files that I do when I back up myself, though not all of the photos and WP files.

Today I got a message to do a "quick archive" I did it.

I have these 3 disks now. When do I use them and how?

(I still back up the documents and settings folder under my name every week onto the E drive and onto a disk once a month.I also do the same with my recipes)

TIA
.
