I've only really had experience with three of them, two when I
was a kid. My brother sucked the eyeballs out of one with a ping
pong ball pistol. The other chewed its way up into my pillow and
I slept on it mercilessly until it quit moving.

I'm starting to think that your hamster slanders are the result of the
psychological scars left by these incidents. I would suggest that you get
another hamster to help you with the healing process, but I don't think you
could handle the trauma if something unfortunate happened to this new
rodent.

Then there's the one that lurks around here sometimes. He seems
to be able to take care of himself.

I'll bet that his....er......mate would disagree strongly with this
last point.
