Most ISPs? I have Verizon and it's not limited. Before that I had

Ben

First, let me share my just completed experience on the phone with the
piece of *** company Verizon. All I wanted to know was what their
limitations on newsgroup downloads were. After 20 minutes, three
different 800 numbers, I finally talked to their DSL salesperson. He
didn't know what newsgroups were. Not a freaking clue.

Having done all that, I don't have the documentation, BUT:

I have never heard of a provider that didn't have some sort of
limitations on NG downloads.

So, Ben, I believe you are misinformed.

Much like the Verizon guy I talked to.

You failed to answer my question.

BTW, currently there is no limit on Verizon's newsgroups. That's why the guy
could not help you. The TOS does say this regarding it:

"Usenet Policy and Posting Restrictions: Usenet comprises a system of
bulletin boards called newsgroups. Usenet access is provided to Internet
access customers of Verizon through the Verizon network. Verizon Usenet may
not be accessed via any other network. You may open no more than five
simultaneous connections to newsgroups at any one time. You may not rapidly
open and close or create connections for users other than yourself (our
Subscriber). Verizon will carry newsgroups at their sole discretion. We also
reserve the right in our sole discretion, with or without notice to you, to
modify or restrict the bandwidth available to download content from our
Usenet Newsgroup services. Requests to add a newsgroup, from any source,
will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and added at Verizon's sole
discretion. You must familiarize yourself with the subjects and established
guidelines and restrictions of any newsgroup in which you participate and we
reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to terminate your Service in the
event you violate newsgroup guidelines or restrictions. "

Currently they do not restrict downloads.

Ben

Read what they wrote. It is almost identical to what Comcast writes in
their TOS regarding bandwidth usage. Why is it a restriction when
Comcast writes it but not Verizon?

What? Comcast says it's a 2 gig limit doesn't it?
We were talking newsgroup, not overall.

Why you have your undies in a bunch over this I have no idea. It's
like I was slapping your baby. I'm just telling you the facts. As far
as Verizon NG, there is no limit. How do I know? Becasue I know
someone who use to have Verizon who downloads binaries all night every
night and was really disappointed when he switched to Comcast just to
find they were limited.

I can't say the same for Earthlink but they do not mention limiting
bandwidth in thier TOS regarding NGs. The TOS is there for all to see.
I have never been cut off from Earthlink NGs when I was with them near
a decade ago and I was downloading binaries back then. I have never
had a service that had limit on the amount you could download that I'm
aware of and I've used Usenet since the 80s and have gone through
quite a few services since then. Now, could it be some are limiting
it? Sure, Comcast is. You made the statement of "most do" and I
merly asked you to back that up. You don't have to get angry about
it. Stop for a moment and ask yourself why are you getting wrapped
around the axle regarding this. Take a chill-pill.
