It was recommended here to change, or at least test, the overload
overheating.
In pulling the cover, and reading the schematics, it was easy to find,
even easier to check.
Here's the problem. IIRC, if it was bad, then there should be total
continuity between the poles.
However, in locating the "phenolic motor protector" on the Klixon web
site, which is identical to my relay, it says in the description that
when operating properly, the switch should be closed, allowing current
through the bimetallic disc. When temp and current rise to the set
point, the disc moves, and cuts off the current, preventing
When I saw it, armed with that knowledge, it is pretty obvious just by
examination how it works.
But if all that is so, then the "normal" reading should be total
continuity.
Which mine does have.
Please correct my logic here if it is faulty, which is entirely
possible.

But is it welded in that condition? The only way to tell is to overload
it and see if it opens. If they are cheap, replacing it is cheap
insurance.
Price isn't the issue. Finding the CORRECT one is. Apparently it goes
by a couple of things. The HP of the motor, size, high or low cap,
heater, disc and contact, and operating temperature.
Since I don't have all of those specs, and can't seem to find them I'm
kinda stuck. The old one's numbers aren't anywhere to be found on the
net.
There is a work*** to figure all this out having to do with locked
rotor amps, ad nauseam. When I have a few hours I'll work on it, but
it isn't going to be easy, and if I'm not sure, it'll probably stay
where it is.
