Ah... yes. I can recall my Dad talking about Porro prisms (in relation
to single lens reflex cameras, I think). I knew they used prisms in
binoculars but assumed they were just different methods of bending
light so your image didn't come out reversed. I know I've used both
kinds and frankly I can't tell the difference.

Is one considered to be better than the other? Is one better for
birding than the other?
