My goodness. How can that be? There must be loopholes in the laws.
They should be plugged immediately.
With a 9mm round?
I had occasion to use some of my newfound knowledge as a fledgling NRA member last week. The company I work for has had a policy against bringing firearms to work for many years and, like any good employee, I've always complied with those policies. Last week, the company gave us some training on spotting the signs of impending "Work Place Violence". The presenter had some very good credentials; 2 tours in Vietnam, on the police force in Chicago for a number of years, FBI agent and assorted types of work experiences but he got my dander up a bit when he very quickly in his talk indicated that he recommends to all companies he visits that they enact and require all employees to sign a policy against firearms in the workplace. He had a bunch of statistics to prove his point about how bad the problem of work place violence is and he kept mentioning Virginia Tech and how all the signs were there and how it could have been prevented and the same for the Columbine killings. He explained that another source of work place incidents involved "domestic partners" that came into the work place after their spouses and harmed whomever was in their way. Afterwards, I asked him how Virginia Tech, Comlumbine and other work place violence incidents might have been changed if more of the vistims had been armed. Got some hemming and hawing but no real answer. Asked him if he thought that since he was recommending that the company management take away my right to protect myself if then, perhaps, he and they should also be held criminally liable if I were hurt in a work place violence incident. More hemming and hawing and the response that most companies were enacting such policies anyway. I also asked him, in light of the fact that Virginia Tech, Columbine and all of the post office incidents took place in "gun free" zones, did it make much sense for him to continue to counsel companies to enact policies against personal protection? Yep, that's right. More hemming and hawing. I also wonder, later 'cause I didn't think of it then, if the company isn't sending a message to all "domestic partners" that this is a good place for violence because you're guaranteed that none of the employees will be armed thanks to our policy against firearms in the work place?
One more useless thrust in the fight for things that make sense. But, it was fun, anyway.
