$200 sounds like a good deal for the functionality.
I still use a simple hand-held GPS receiver I purchased over ten years
for about $50. It only gives me LAT, LON, and ALT, but it has always
steered me to my destination without fail.
I also buy a Rand McNally road atlas every other year so that I am up
to date with changes in the roads.
So here is my question to owners of the fancy GPS units with built in
maps. How do you upgrade the maps in them?

DeLorme has one that comes with the PC version of their latest 'Topo USA'
map package. You install DeLorme's map software on your PC, connect the GPS
and download the map info. I suspect you can't download the whole country,
but probably have to download by state or region. I believe current
versions of their maps can also be downloaded. I think they also have some
specialty maps for hikers, but I am not familiar with those. The GPS with
'Topo USA' cost about $299.
