I'll take your word for it that diesel has 12 percent more energy than gas.
I do know that diesel comes out of the refining tree a LOT farther down
than gasoline, and thus it's a lot cheaper to refine.
Diesel is about the same grade of fuel as home heating oil and jet fuel,
so the oil companies can't claim not enough economy of scale.
When diesel is more expensive than the highest grade premium gasoline,
it's just pure greed, nothing else.
IMCO, of course. :-)
I don't understand why the Teamsters put up with it ... a nationwide
trucker's strike that lasts until the oil companies get real on the price
of diesel vs. gasoline wouldn't take long to bear fruit.
