Check out your particular model.
I have an RV AC unit in my community
access remote TV truck. We
had Camping World install and later had
them add the heat strip. I can't
say what it cost because the bill went
directly to the town bean counters.
Obviously more than the $10 - $15 for a
portable unit, however, if you
don't want a portable heater kicking
around, it is a nice option.

I hope yours works better than mine, which puts out "warm" air only --
not "hot" by any stretch of the imagination. I'd hate to try to heat the
van with nothing but that.

I have an 800-watt heater (bought at CW several years ago) that puts out
a lot more "feelable" heat than the power strip in the a/c. In addition
to which, since the a/c is up at the ceiling, what warm air does come
out of it stays up there. With the little heater on the floor, the heat
at least has a chance to move around.

The heat strip was in place when I bought the van (used). If I'd paid
money to have it installed, I'd have been disappointed.

I slept in the van last night at a friend's house. Outside temperature
got down to around 30, but inside -- with the little heater and an
electric blanket -- Nugget and I were toasty warm all night. Kept the
temp at around 64, with the heater control set at around the midpoint.
