Trucks built today are so far above the ones of yesteryear that your
"opinion" in the last sentence is a joke. Everything about them is
better engineered and when equipped to tow, they will run circles
around trucks of even the 90's. That's just my honest opinion, you nor
anyone else "has" to buy it <g>.
Hugh

My opinion is they are indeed, better *more* engineered than yesteryear.
Meaning much more complicated. So, yes, they get more more power, less
emmisions, better handling. But the transmissions aren't up to it, are they?
Most won't go the life of the engine. And Ford, for one, is still beta
testing it's newer diesels. Now when the black boxes start to go (in under
10 years), you've got trouble big time. Every box on that thing costs more
than an older re-built transmission. Plus, the interior seems not as stout,
the sheet metal (if it's not all plastic by now), is much thinnner to save
weight. They cut corners left and right to save pennies, and to pay the
union bennies.

So, yes, you're right if you trade every few years and take the hit. But 20
grand here, 20 grand there, starts to add up to real money.
Gas mileage IS a bit better. But you can buy a lotta tanks for 20 grand.

Back in the '50s and '60s, my dad used to trade in his Buick
every 4 years "because the new wore off".

I trade in my truck every 10 years for the same reason. :o)

Gassers don't have the tranny problems diesels do.
