By pumping less, you'll have to learn how to shoot the BB gun again.
Whatever happened to "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" ? It sounds like
you're a resounding success as a "hit man" for squirrels!
Look at this from the squirrel's side. Here you are, almost flying
through a loaded pecan tree, 100X more agile than "Errol Flynn", when
suddenly, "PING!", a BB slams into you, sending you end over end, 40
feet down onto "the yard of death"!
Haven't hit one on the move yet. But I've come close. They
usually hide most of their bodies behind the limbs and leaves.
Seldom get a broadside shot.
In fact, if they weren't dropping pecan parts, I might not be
able to find them.
What an awful way to die! There's no coffin, no funeral, no
nothin'! There's just "the monster's" garbage can! "Oh, the horror,
the horror!"
Just be glad the squirrels aren't orangautangs (sp), like in the
movies with Clint Eastwood. They're crap might knock you out! Besides,
they'd tear you limb from limb, if your shot one of them with a BB gun!
Don
(who shot five ground squirrels this week...)
Thing is, don, I don't really want to kill them. I just want to
move them. I started out thinking I couldn't kill them at 40
feet with 5 pumps, and was startled to see how easy it was.
Besides, it might be interesting to figure out how the accuracy
changes and must be adapted to. Maybe fall back to 2 pumps. As
long as the BB reaches, I can figure out how to hit something
with it.
It's a relatively useless talent for a civilian non-hunter like
me, but I've always been able to hit small targets with an
open-sight rifle, with just a little practice. It's a breathing
exercise more than anything. I'm not near as good with a pistol.
Wait.
On the other hand, if they're going to die, I'd rather it be
immediately than slowly later, in somebody else's yard.
You're right, Don. Why fix what ain't broke?
What have you got against the ground squirrels? Making a stew? I
can just see you handing those varmints to Peg and telling her to
cook them up. Riiight.
