Everything else in your post as quoted below (I can't make people read
through the whole thing again, nor can I distill it; else I'd _never_
bottom-quote) is comedy gold. It is a perfect example of Norton users
who think Norton is fixing their problems -- when it's really causing
their problems, or finding non-problems, and then allowing them to fix
'em.

WRONG (comment below). I have used Norton SystemWorks for years and
recommend it to friends, who have been extremely happy with it. They range
from people who are basically afraid of their computer, to more
knowledgeable and comfortable folks, to experts. By watching sales at
certain sellers' sites, I (and they) pay not one penny for it each year (via
sale pricing and rebates). It is easy to use if one takes the time to
understand its diverse functions--and if someone doesn't want back-up
software, disk scanning/fixing, etc.--they can either buy plain Norton
Antivirus (I believe) or just not install the other programs. However, Ghost
(backup software) works extremely well, and the other programs have all
proved their worth (even at zero cost to me) to me time and time again.

I have also used AVG and have nothing against it, however, personally I find
Norton to be faster, better, more comprehensive, and so on. It auto-updates,
I have never seen a request for more money (that some people have mentioned
in this discussion), and, as I said earlier, various parts of SystemWorks
(e.g., the disk and Windows scanning programs) have saved my computer many,
many times when some things have stopped work.

in the IT industry for several decades understand how OSs (operating
systems) have totally changed over the years. And firewalls, as necessary as
they are these days, can really cause problems with other programs. Computer
users really need to understand how to set and use their firewall, perhaps
above all else--and especially before complaining that other things don't
work. And people need to realize that Norton, McAfee, or AVG are not
end-alls. People still need to have AND to run programs for spyware (SpyBot
has long been and still is highly recommended--and is free), ad software
(AdAware--same comments as SpyBot), and firewalls (free ZoneAlarm works
great--but again, one must understand they sometimes need to tweak settings
on this or any quality firewall product).

And no, Norton doesn't have me in their hip pocket in the least. I don't
sell, recommend, or support any specific software products for anything to > anyone. Norton's products aren't perfect, but I have yet to find software
that is. (And, in fact, I know none is--anyone knowledgeable about software
and software testing understands why.)
