There use to be a lot of folks from the Oklahoma City area that went down
there for cancer treatment. Now, they have some sort of hookup with a
local hospital. People can get treatment supervised and monitored by MD
Anderson staff and not have to make the 400 mile trip to Houston. They
may have to make a trip down there for initial exams, test, etc., but it
sure is easier on them to take treatments near home.

We talked about this with my doctor. The thing is that even is the local
radiation oncologist has the exact dosage and program, he is not as
familiar with tongue cancer as they are at MDA. He might not see a
side-effect beginning to happen. MDA is sending me to a speech consult. I
said I'm speakin g just fine, thank you. The doctor said it's for a
baseline so that they can tell if any side effects are happening and
correct them. That's something the locals just don't have the ability to
do. As my doctor said, they treat the usual cancers in The Valley, but
mine is quite unusual. Since we are paying a lot of money for his advice,
we are going to listen to him.

I don't blame you a bit. You are doing exactly what I would do.
