Just picked up the new 5th wheel this afternoon. It's a 35'Welcome to my world - Congrats on the new purchase.
Crossroads towed with a K3500 Chevy pickup.
The good:
No sway whatsoever from passing trucks. Not even a correction with
the steering wheel. Now I know what the 5ers are talking about.
The bad:
You definitely know it's back there. Accelerating and braking are
fine, but the nose of the 5er in the truck bed causes a lot more
see-saw motion than I'm used to.
The ugly:
Making turns, tight turns, is a new experience. With a TT, a right
turn causes a TT to actually turn to the left making negotiating a
turn rather easy. The 5er seems to act as if the combination were one
long vehicle. I made a tight 90 degree right turn on my trip home. I
had the truck completely in the opposite lane, yet the wheels of the
5er came within 6" of hitting the ditch on the right side of the road.
Is this normal behavior for a fifth wheel?
Now, get thee back down to the grocery store parking lot for some more
practice like has been recommended for the newbies - If you think
going forward around a corner was different, wait till you have to
back that big monster into a spot at some campground. ;-)
.
Any info appreciated.
