All of this stuff about GPS and mapping and extensive cost
of equipment, don't think it has much of a future with me.
You see, I have discovered a lot of beautiful places while I
was temporally off the planned routing.
Who would want to give up the on the spot decision making
process of trail blazing, and best of all the old way to
enjoy it is free.
It always kind of amazes me that some folks seem to brag about a lack of ability to understand, and use technology.
With the modern technology of computers and programmable devices, what we have done is sophisticated our self in to total incompetence. If you do not believe that, just go in your bank and try to withdraw money when the computer is down.
I evaluate the return on the investment with a more critical measure now than I did when I was much younger. Hell, at one time I could remember the heading and altitude of air traffic of up to five aircraft. I doubt that I could remember the last assigned heading to just one after saying a word to another.
I do have a good memory of the past though. Maybe it is like what Kerry said it was seared in there.
Bill, why would you believe, even for a second, that once you have the tool, you must use the tool, all the time? I can still do what I've done for the last 45,000 MH miles in the MH and most of my adult life, wander and explore. I can choose to use the GPS, as a GPS if I want. I can wander with the GPS function turned on, and listen to one of hundreds of songs on the SD card, or I can turn it off. It's a tool Bill, nothing more. It's not a master, and it doesn't enslave us.
Haaa! There it is, an indication that I am much older than you. Your day will come when your memory will control your technology use.
Not withstanding the cost of the equipment, I would afford it if the desire was great enough. But to learn another electronic program, of which I no doubt would be able to eventually. There is the part about remembering how it operates with some delays between use. Not to mention, here is the program I must learn and remember that is in the metal detector I have, takes a little doing as well, then the delays between it's use.
But as I have mentioned, old timers memory can be an advantage on some things. The movie library I have is large enough that all I have to do is play them down the line regardless of what is next, I hardly ever consider it to be a rerun, at least I do not remember seeing it before.
