I'm sure you have lots of programs loading when you start up.

You want to stop them. If you need them you can click on their icon
to start them.

Go to Start/Run and type in msconfig

Then click the startup tab and disable all.

Then put back the few things you want running, such as your virus
protection.

Running only needed startup items is good advice to alleviate slow
startups. While at it... take a look at System Services. Seems to be
myriad items there that all do not need to be running. Rather than say
what I've done/unchecked, maybe the "real" gurus will have some
advice.

PCs have too much clutter as they get used. Reminds me of a utility
room corner I just cleaned out. Unbelievable what useless and/or
unneeded stuff can accumulate!
