In article <440415D4.6010703@xxxxxxxxxx>, Curt Martin says...
Sorry to hear about your dog. If I may ask...at what point do you
decide to put a dog down? We have two, and the elderly of the two seems
to be slipping fast over the last 6 months or so. She is over 14, and I
dread that we have started down "that path".
There are no clear-cut rules on this.
Unfortunately, I had to do this 3 times last year. The first one was our 12-year
old schipperke. He just went from being an active dog to just laying around in 2
days. Vet diagnosed lymphatic cancer, and we decided to send him on his final
journey immediately.
The second one was our very old schipperke that we had adopted 6 years prior. He
couldn't jump anymore, and was walking so slowly. Stairs were out of the
question. After some debate, we also had to take him to the vet as well.
The third animal was our 17 year old cat. She was diagnosed with kidney problems
and we took her to the vet as well.
Good thing is we adopted a 17-month old schipperke, Austin. He is a great dog.
He can't replace the ones we lost, but he has helped us in dealing with the loss
of our other companions.
