My old pal that visited belongs to a gold mining club. They lease
property from the BLM and camp on the lease on weekends while pursuing
their hobby. Recycling beer cans also plays an important part. Campfires
are too. Sounds like good, clean fun.

He HAS found some nice nuggets, one at at abandoned test hole where
someone stopped digging about 4 inches too soon.

I'll try and remember to ask what brand he has. I know it's mighty
sensitive since it found a #8 shot buried under several inches of dirt.

My best adventure in Gold Panning was when I took my mom up to the Yuba
River in Northern CA. We went to a local shop and purchased some panning
gear. The lady that ran the shop agreed to take us down to the river behind
her shop and give quick instructions. Mom walked down the beach to the
river, looked down and found a one hundred dollar bill wadded up next to a
piece of river wood. We thanked the lady for her hospitality and went home.

I have panned in the river maybe a dozen times. I have found small traces
of gold, but never a nugget. I built a sluice box, purchased a pump and
dredge and never used it. Somehow, finding gold does not interest me as
much as spending time on the river drinking beer and BSing with friends.
