Re: OT Imaginary credentials

You've been outvoted David. Shut up and sit down.

Oz has claimed to be a researcher, a physician, and now portrays
himself to be a Captain (or maybe a 2nd Looey) of the computer
industry, with unspecified hordes of underlings reporting to him.
Ever wonder if he has a real job? Beyond being a desk clerk at the
museum?

On a serious note, I can see why a layperson unfamiliar with computers
(IOW, someone like the real Oz) would be unable to distinguish between
"repair" and what the sysadmins do to help people cope with Windoze
and related bloatware. To the Oz-like, anyone who can make the blue
screen of death go away MUST be a "repair man" - even if it is a woman
who shows them they can't make the plug go into the power socket by
stamping their wittow feets.

It's a familiar syndrome: assigning a dismissive title to anyone who
does work you don't understand but need to have done.

I'm just glad that, back when I did various sorts of computer related work, I had the foresight to call myself "computer guy", and have thus avoided being pigeonholed, labeled, or otherwise denigrated as a computer repairman, network manager, sysadmin, software guru, hardware wizard, modem magus, cable puller, machine mover, furniture rearranger, or any other 4-letter word.

Theory don't mean squat if it don't work.
