Re: 40% increase in Health Insurance Premium

You need to realize that you've passed the magic number as far as
medical insurance is concerned - 50. You'll find that individual
insurance is practically impossible to get once you pass that number

qualify for Medicare.

Frankly, medical insurance is the only reason I haven't already
retired. I can't quite feed the monster and live a decent life on my
retirement savings. A bitch, ain't it?

While these comments are generally true, they aren't everywhere. Everyone needs to do some serious research regarding where to live, in these situations.

Michigan has what I consider Socialized Medicine. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan can't charge extra because of your age. They can't reject you. They can't charge extra because of your history. Everyone pays the same price for the same coverage. In addition you have LOTS of choices regarding coverage. You can pay huge premiums for insurance which covers EVERYTHING, or you can pay much less if you take SOME of the risk yourself.

A couple, choosing no deductible, with a 20% copay to $5,000 (maximum burn of $1,000) will run about $360 per month. You can ass/u/me more risk, and pay less premium, or you can ass/u/me less risk and pay more.

This subject is not simple, and no two people will find the same situation best for them. If you aren't happy with your own situation, do more research. You can bet that there is a state which will make your situation better.
