Thanks to all for their suggestions. Today the problem manifest
itself is several other ways.
I ended up tracing the BIG wires from the battery. The long and short
of it I found that the terminal on the "ground" wire was broken into
where the house batteries were connected to chassi ground. That was a
HUGE ground cable-----between 1/2 to 3/4 inch in diameter for the
conductor. I got a connector at Home Depot that was for a house
connection and fixed the problem.
In addition I had one bad 6volt golf cart battery that Sam's replaced
for $2.15. It was a 100% replacement but the new battery costs $2.00
more than I paid for it originally.
Anyway, between a bad battery and a broken ground wire things are now
back to normal.
