GPS update

I got my new Deluo GPS yesterday. Darn, it's small, 2 1/8" diameter and only
about 5/8" high. It does have a magnetic bottom, but that's not much help to
me, because there's nothing to mount it to in the front of the MH.
OK, when I got it, I uninstalled the Belkin Serial to USB adapter,
uninstalled GPSgate, then installed the Deluo drivers, plugged in the Deluo
GPS and it locked on satellites right away. Opened S&T and it was right on
target, with the GPS on Com 5, right where the Magellan had been. Unlike the
old GPS it didn't jump location while I was not moving.
I had ran a test with the Magellan just prior to installing the Deluo. It
showed me pretty darn close to where I'm at, but jumping around and moving
as fast as 8 MPH while sitting still. Elevation ran from 37 feet to 154
feet.
OK, time for the next step, install GPSgate with the Deluo installed.
GPSgate found the GPS and worked fine, for about 15 minutes, then lost
signal. Unplugged the Deluo, and plugged it back in, and got a message that
an unknown device had been found on the USB port. I fought this for over 2
hours, uninstalling, then reinstalling and finally reinstalled the Belkin,
plugged in the old Magellan and it worked fine. I then reinstalled the Deluo
and it then installed on Com 6, then reinstalled GPSgate, and it's now
working like a charm. Dead on, steady, and accurate. The Deluo lists my
elevation here in the park at 127 feet, and will vary about 4 feet.
I then installed S&T 2006 and played with it for a bit, then opened SA 2006,
and TL Campground Finder and had GPS running in all programs out of GPS
gate.
We then took it for a test drive in the car. Just a short one about 40 miles
or so, but didn't get to finish the full test because the laptop battery ran
out of juice. I had identical trips planned in S&T and SA. SA, IMO, is a
bitch to use. It's not intuitive, and maybe, just because I'm so used to
S&T, seems difficult to do simple chores, like find nearby places, or POI's.
Clerbrook isn't even listed when I ask for campgrounds and RV parks, but I
was going to run this test, so I struggled through with the routes. Off we
go in the car with both programs running. SA in the background kept yelling
"off route" and then gave meaningless instructions to get back on route. The
test confirmed one thing, the speedometer in the Honda is slow by about 5
mph at 65 mph.
During the run both maps showed us dead on route, on the right side of the
roads and Express Way. I've pretty well made the decision not to even play
with SA anymore. Maybe I just don't want to learn a new program, and Mary
and I are both pretty used to, and proficient with S&T. We really don't need
voice prompts, cuz we are one. I do like the new Driving Guidance Pane in
S&T, and the F7 keys for Recalculate Route and Voice on/off.
One last thing. Support at Duleo is about as good as support at DirecWay.
Both are oxymoron's. Deluo has a phone number to call, but if you get an
answer you are told they don't offer phone support. If you email you get
conflicting information, like, one email from support said that I could not
use the GPS with more than one application at a time, and the next one
included a link to GPSgate support page.
End result. I'm happy with the purchase, and that's the way it should be in
this all too imperfect world.
