I know these drivers were designed for the DeLorme LT-20 and USB Earthmate,
and the write-up on the website doesn't specifically say that 3rd party GPS
units won't work, so I suspect they will as long as they are NMEA compliant.
I also think I remember hearing in the forums that others were using them
with other GPS units.

The utility will only list the com ports available to it.
If you set the utility to say....
com 3 = Street Atlas (in SA set the port to com3)
com 4 - Streets&Trips (in S&T set the port to com4)
There are three com ports available, I said four earlier.

I'm currently not using this utility, but I do know that S&T 2005 and
earlier, only worked with com ports set to 4800 baud. Normally a new com
port defaults to 9600 baud, so it needs to be changed in device manager. I'm
pretty sure these show up in device manager if the utility is running, but I
don't remember if they are updatable or not. This was in the first USB to
Serial drivers that DeLorme put out.
