The last person I chatted with told me it was a known motherboard issue but the symptoms are that it works with the CD drive removed but not with it inserted. One would think it was a problem with the CD drive but they told me that isn't it.

I'll probably wait until Monday to call the out-of-warranty number and see what can be done. This thing already had the motherboard replaced once at the factory in Tennessee.

Who knows? It may pay to replace the motherboard and/or the CD drive. I already replaced the keyboard, battery and upgraded the memory this past summer.

Anyone have a similar experience? Any hot tips? At least I haven't lost any data and can still transfer it.

What model is it and where are you? Do I understand you that it works with the CD drive out of the system?

I may have some parts, and I've for sure got all the manuals for whatever it is.
