My roadway GPS is easy. I hand my wife a map and point to where I want to
go. She forces me to pull over and ask directions when I deviate from her
directions. We've never been lost more than a few hours using this system,
and usually when we did get lost we had fun despite. Probably more fun than
had we not gotten lost.
In the back country when hiking I use a Megellan 315 and have been very
happy with the accuracy. No maps. No cables to the laptop. Fits in the
plam of my hand or clips to my belt. But this would be useless on the road.
In the back country you don't look for road signs or take multiple 90 degree
turns to turn around.
I've thought seriously about going electronic on our road trips. But I fear
it would suck the fun out of the adventures.
I know this response was of no use to you, but I'm sittng in my office
waiting for coffee to brew and I'm bored out of my mind. Just ignore me
till that first cup is digested.
Nate
