You either have a source or you don't. It is simple.
I googled it, David. Google it. What figures do you come up with? I
actually thought that 9 trillion was a bit small, afterall, it has
been forty four years since LBJ implemented it. Whatever the figure,
and I know it has more than six zeros to the right of it, it is a
helluva lot of money that has not solved the problem it was supposed
to. The same thing is true of our education system; government's
solution is to throw more money at it and that hasn't worked, and it
never will. Address the problems of the poor. Treat the disease not
the symptoms.
I see the poor and work with them about ten hours each week. They
have absolutely no incentive to work. None. I interview them. "Do
you work?" "No." "Can you work?" "Yes." Why don't they work? They
don't have to. Some of them are third generation welfare recipients.
Some have nice cars. Most don't. Many of them either have piercings
or tatoos that cost a helluva lot of money. Yet the government does
nothing for them except throw money at them. We have created an
entire generation, an entire class of people who have absolutely no
incentive to work because the government takes care of them. And if
they vote, they vote Dem. The Dems give them the handouts. The
Repubs want them to work.
And, we also have the working poor. These folks work at jobs either
part-time or ones that do not pay well because they are unskilled.
They come on Thursday night. They are eligible because their income
does not exceed a certain amount (depending on how many in the
family). These are the ones who are actually trying to help
themselves but need the extra help that we provide. Many of these
folks are going to school evenings to improve themselves.
Curiously, many of the folks I work with are also poor. They voluteer
at the pantry for 20 hours a week and get food for their efforts.
But, back to the original question: I got my figure from google. I
have tried to find it again, but have come up empty. I am very
curious on how much you think LBJs WoP has cost us.
