If I were on one that wanted top posting, I'd do that. But the list
owner should be making the rules clear when anyone joins the list and
when anyone violates the rules. List owner / system op should have
made that clear with your first 'incorrect' post.
Private emails I almost always do top posting unless I see a good
reason to intersperse my responses.
the explanation given for the "convention" of bottom-posting ought to apply to listservs as well as newsgroups. i suppose e-mail is different, though not necessarily...esp. for some. i think top-posting makes more sense, especially when most of an original post is snipped. plus, it's quicker for those who keep up with a thread. those who don't keep up can go to the trouble of scrolling through the posts beneath the response and all the others in a thread. it has nothing to do with being polite or rude, being stupid or smart, or being lazy. frankly, it's humorous at times to see net-nanny kenny (who struggles to be unconventional) claim "convention" and politeness, then launch into an impolite name-calling rant. it makes little difference to me where something is posted in this or any other newsgroup...and i doubt it makes all that much difference to most normal folks.
