Hello,

I'm new to fly fishing, and would like some opinions on the Cabela's
Traditional Fly Rod (here is a link)
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/horizontal-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20431&id=0029926317994a&navCount=2&podId=0029926&parentId=cat20457&navAction=push&catalogCode=IG&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20457&hasJS=true

I'm considering the 8'6" 5 weight (already have the line and reel). I
understand that Cabela's rods have a 2 year warranty, including
satisfaction guarantee. For the price, are they a good buy?

Yes...or no...or perhaps...or maybe...or not really...or....

Are they appropriately (or competitively, if you prefer) priced, when
compared to the other choices out there? Sure. Are they of
appropriate-to-the-price quality. Sure. Will _you_ like this or that
rod? Who knows? Another person cannot "fit" a fly rod for/to you any
more than they could stand in your place for fitting a tailored suit. If
you love the rod, it would be a great buy, but if you hate that or any
rod, it wouldn't be a good buy at all. Given that they offer a
satisfaction guarantee, you'd not be doing anything untoward by buying
it, trying it, and if _you_ aren't satisfied, returning it.

If you're looking for decent fly rods in the lower price range, there
are several decent choices out there. You might wish to look here:

www.templeforkflyrods.com (for the record, I have no vested interest in
you doing so or this company)

or look at the Orvis Clearwater series, or even at Wal-Mart, Academy,
etc. There are lots of decent, inexpensive (new) rods out there, and
lots of good used (or not so used) rods out there - you'll just have to
get some experience as to what you prefer, action-wise, and then buy
appropriate to your budget. And whatever you decide, I'd not worry
about the opinions of others above your own - I'd rather get my limit
with an old scarred Mossberg than miss every bird with a pair of bespoke
Holland and Holland Royals...of course, given all choices, I'd rather
get my limit with the H & H's...

Hope this helps,
R
