At NASA-Ames, the piece of equipment I was using involved a 30ftx4ftx3ft
slab of granite, with the top 30x4 lapped to a high polish. Parts of the
building were built around this rock. I've seen a video of it being moved,
with the crane gently placing it to ride on nifty air cushions, and a slew
of people moving it SLOWLY into position.
First transport attempt resulted in a cracked slab, and the order had to be
redone.
