Re: OT: SWMBO gloat and question

On one of those days, have lunch at the Carnegie Deli. Order a hot
pastrami sandwich. Or have a breakfast of bagels and lox. (No matter
how hearty your appetites, you will get enough to eat.)

Visit McSorleys' Old Ale House, down in the Village. They have cobwebs
dating back to Civil War days.

Treat your wife (and yourself) to a carriage ride through Central
Park. (That may take her mind off a trip to Bloomies, and cost you a
lot less money.)

Funny you should bring that up. SWMBO mentioned last night how neat it was that we would be staying right near 5th Ave. She had this glazed look on her face when she said it, and I could see dollar signs in her eyes. :-}

Go to a concert at Lincoln Center.

If you like museums, Google "New York City Museums"; you'll get a list
of dozens.

If it's still permitted, got to the top of the Empire State Building
and gawk at the city. Or visit the Statue of Liberty. Or both.

See Times Square at night.

(After the concert, you can walk down Broadway from Lincoln Center to
Times Square in about 20 minutes, or in three hours if you stop to
look at the shop windows.)

Well the awards ceremony is in Times Square, so we'll definitely get a chance to do some exploring around there.

Heck, as a last resort, you could even visit the New York Public
Library!

Have a ball!

Thanks, and thanks for all the good advice. When I first thought about going to NYC I was skeptical, as I'm not a big city person by nature. But I was looking at where we're staying in Google Earth yesterday and we're a couple of blocks away from the UN building, within walking distance of the Empire State, near 5th Ave., etc., etc.

Throw in all the restaurants, and it's starting to sound like fun. ;-)
