Dave, try as I might, I can't scare up one web reference to Cleland
claiming that he ever received a purple heart. Not a one, credible or
uncredible, and I've been trying for a while. I've seen one article two
describing him as a recipient, but no attribution to him or his campaign,
and an editors retraction right under it. If he claimed it, I can
understand your concern, but I can't find one citation for that claim. If
I recall correctly, he claimed to be wounded in battle when his injuries
didn't count as a combat wound. If you think that claiming his three lost
limbs was a combat injury is worth your eternal derision, that's fine too.
