Dave you are right about the corruption in government. It has been breed
here for years and it is a terrible image. I am not proud of the fact that
our greedy politicians are corrupt. The most crooked politicians we had for
governors in Louisiana, Huey Long and Edwin Edwards did do the most good for
the state as a whole. The most honest Governor we ever elected became a
lame duck because of the corruption. He could not get anything done.
The federal government has been trying to clean up Louisiana by indicting
some key players and even getting convictions. I don't know much other then
what I read in the local paper about the on going investigation of 60
million dollars of misspent FEMA money. I do know that I spoke with my
councilman for my parish and he told me that the money in question for our
parish was spent correctly. He named the projects it was used for. He
cited that it is a paperwork issue. They have to respond back to the state
in a few weeks so the state can respond back to the feds.
Our present governor, issued a no bid emergency contract to Shaw Industries.
Shaw Industries is a Baton Rouge base company that the owner just so
happened to be a big supporter of the present governor. He was also the
democratic state leader until recently he resigned due to increase work
load with post Hurricane Katrina work. His private plane flew her husband
and her around while she campaigned for governor. The contract is political
pay back. Legal yes, ethically right no. They work should have been spread
out among many qualified business.
I try to remember every time I go to the voting booth to vote against anyone
that I believe is unethical and corrupt.
