Some more on Katrina, and a possible explanation as to why there is plenty of blame...

I'm assuming since we here in Iowa, where there is little or no info
available, have heard all about this, everyone else on the planet knows
all the details. IAC, it seems that Aaron Broussard, previously
lionized for his "give me another idiot" speech, has done it again.
After his tearjerker appearance on "Meet the Press" the Sunday after the
storm where he burst into tears about the mother of the guy who runs
emergency management for the Parish having drowned at a nursing home
after daily pleas for rescue, it has come to light that certainly some,
and perhaps all, of it was fiction. And to make matters worse, he is a
Democrat. As can be well-imagined, this has caused all sorts of
speculating, punditry, blaming, and other nonsense totally ignoring what
seems to be the real point: he's just an already-under-indictment local
politician/crook/liar who screwed up and now wants to CYA by shifting
the blame (and spotlight) to others.
As I've said, there have been lots of people down here of all political
persuasions, races, levels of material wealth, and social position who
have tried their best and worked nearly non-stop, but made honest
mistakes in the face of some big problems. And it's when stuff like the
aforementioned, um, I'll be generous and say "stunt" takes place that
the system doesn't work for anyone. Since many of the US-based pundits
here can't seem to do more than offer opinions about what's happening
down here, here's a suggestion on how you can help and never have to
leave your AC and cold beer/unpretentious little wines: educated
yourself, even cheaply, about the facts of situations like this and if
and when you can, try to educate whatever elected officials you might
care to about them so as to perhaps eliminate a little politicking and
finger-pointing and create a little more understanding.
