I have been staying out of this but you are not likely to see any damage
from tying a clothesline and then removing it.
Do some research for tree bark stressing. Some trees actually need the bark
to be stressed, nature, woodpeckers, etc.
I in no way condone misuse or abuse of a tree, but tying a clothesline is a
bit of a stretch for claiming damage.
Just my two hundredths of dollar.
