Thick woods, no breeze, 60% humidity on top of the ravines, 100% down at

If it's not just a desert-will-turn-you-to-dust problem...
I know nothing about swamp conditions. My worst swamp feelings have
been at Pennsic, so I better stay out of real swamps.
Heh. I used to do quite a bit of backpacking. I took up the vice in
northern Arizona, where you carefully plan your hike around making
sure you can reach water before dying. Then I moved to western
Pennsylvania, not all that far from Pensic. I was rather shocked the
first time I found myself hiking through mud halfway up the side of a
hill, when it wasn't raining and hadn't rained in several days. The
water was just seeping out of the hillside. Amazing!
You think that's amazing. A bit west of where I live there's water, not
just mud, even when it isn't raining. Thousands of miles of it.
And a good thing, since in the area where we both live, it
doesn't rain from about March/April to about November. I was so
astonished, on my one visit to the East Kingdom, to see that
every weed, every sidewalk verge, every atom of plant life was
GREEN, in AUGUST, with nobody watering it but God. And we won't
even go into Pennsic's Storms of Great Ferocity and Note.
