What is the most important thing in life?
Sounds like a request for an absolute.
If someone wants to get that serious, it is an option; absolute.
Or stated another way, of all the things you have done in your life, what
do you feel is your most important contribution? If you see these as two
different things then explain, please.
A little better, coming out as a relative.
For the less serious and in reference to ... .
I have asked this question hundreds of times through out my life so far
and have received many, many different answers.
Good party question.
Well ... , not a crowd pleaser at most party's.
It seems that nobody can offer an answer that any one can universally
claim *is important* and back it up with a reason why, that would hold up
to any debate.
Some say perpetuating life.
Some say advancing our knowledge of the world around us.
Some say making the world a safer place for people.
Some say cleaning up the environment.
Some say to do Gods' bidding.
Etc., etc., etc.!!!
Is anything we do important or are we simply keeping our selves busy
until we die?
I'm just trying to have fun. Life is to enjoy, no?
Yes, life is to enjoy.
However, I am always fascinated by the things/ideas that people give for
their primary reason for living and why.
I know this is the great question; why are we here?! And, in one form or
another, you have probably been asked this before.
I just wanted to see something in this group other than debate over whom
will the USA follow in 2008 or Trolls posting the wonders of the great
(insert favorite deity/religion here) or the Race/IQ debates or the
useless meanderings of 'BURT'!
They're trying to give meaning to their pathetic lives.
Could that not be taken as one asking one self; what is the most important
thing of life? How do I achieve this goal?
People seem to *need* to feel that they are doing something important.
Sometimes that need is important to them for selfish reasons, sometimes it
is altruistic.
What ever the drive, that person feels that it is important to their life
and will hone their life toward that goal.
Just something that I personally find interesting in human behavior and
thought it would be an interesting diversion from the rather narrow list of
topics in this group.
