Lars, how do you *know* Frank isn't killfiled? I challenge you to report the contents of *my* killfile! If he's in it (was in it when you posted), then your statement is an unforgiveable lie and you must apologize profusely.

It is not unlikly to be the first on topic posting for months (I only
checked this month).

It's hard to define what's off-topic in a rec. group, but quite a few
postings, e.g. those by by Vince, Rob Duncan, Stacey, Gordon,... are
readable. So fire up your filters (simply filter for massive crossposts)
and stop whining.

You hit the mark on this. ROM is a very general discussion group. It's perfectly valid and "on-topic" to use ROM to discuss cats, washing machines, politics, religion, race, or the clear superiority of rtf over doc.

Thanks, Lars! :)

It will, however, not be no topic because it has
anything to do with mensa itself or its members.

You know this isn't an official Mensa group, do you?

If the OP wants official, he needs to check out the forums on the Mensa
homepage.

It will be on topic
because it has something to do with the newsgroup itself.

Meta-discussions suck, so let's start a meta-meta-discussion about why
they suck :-).

Lars, feeding trolls

Should we be clear when we know we're doing that? Does it perhaps spoil the food?

I woke up early this morning after not being able to sleep,

This got my attention, VictoriaStaceyCatherine. You woke up after *not* being able to sleep? How does that work? Generally, I wake up after *being* able to sleep. When I'm unable to sleep, I don't wake up at all, but rather remain awake until I'm able to sleep, after which I can again awaken. Is this a dream? If so, it's not one of the lucid ones.

and thought
that the orignal poster's post was but a dream, then I came back and
sure enough it's still there. I don't know what I'd do if there was no
more ROM! :) It's about the only newsgroup I post to on a regular
basis.

What befuddles me is that I haven't even seen the OP here before, so
he's not been around long enough to want to get rid of this group. I
think he's just flexing his muscles.

I've "been around" ROM since the mid '90s, and absolutely don't have the ability to get rid of the group. Check out JimC's posts in this thread for a more humorous take on it. OTOH, if Frank finds ROM a wasteland, and wants to get rid of it, he can easily unsubscribe, and never waste his time on it again.
