Resolutions of the tritone - in contrary motion, by step - in Tonal
music - that do not establish the (or a) tonic, really?
Examples please.
How about the cycle of secondary V7s such as B7 E7 A7 D7 in the key of C?
Unless you feel that each chord represents a modulation.
Or the usual deceptive cadence such as G7 - Am? If the leading tone is in
the soprano, it is almost always resolved up, usually yielding a vi chord
with doubled 3rd.
Or the deceptive resolution of a secondary dominant such as C E7 F (I,
V7/vi, IV)?
