Good sight reading doesn't come from looking at the score and knowing
where
to put your fingers visually and mechanically, but being able to associate
what's on the page with the proper sounds coupled with ones skill on the
particular instrument.
Absolutely. Mine, however, never good, is starting to get worse. Part
of the reason (only part <g>) is eye-sight. These days, for example, it
is hard to take attention from the last bar on the left hand page and focus
on the first bar on the right hand page. While refocusing the music has
moved on abot 10 bars :-( So, even when not sight-reading, I have to
(a) learn it and/or (b) if there's an intricate passage spanning pages, get
my pencil out and copy it so it is all on the same page.
Getting older is a horrible thing and reading music (where you only get one
go) exposes it sooner than many things :-(
