Ofcourse I also have to worry about going to slow. If you think that I'm
at the stage where I should work on revising to make it more professional
sounding then I can do it.
I think it would be worht your effort - not to "revise" is, but just touch
it up if you feel it needs touching up.
I think you're a little hung up on the "first piece I release to the
public" idea. Don't worry about it. If you're happy with the piece,
complete it, and save it in three or four places so you can always
retrieve a copy, and, if you want, post it on your website on on Sibelius'
thing, or whatever. There's just so much music out there Jon that you
won't be "judged" by anyone by this one piece - it will likely end up
being forgotten. What's important is that you judge it worthy of being
"finished". In otherwords, I wouldn't post drafts or things like that
(unless as a demonstration) but a "finished" piece has a certian sense of
finality to it. It's done. Then move on and write something else.
Everytime you're happy with a piece, you complete it and post it (or save
it in some way).
I know. But it would be nice for people to want to play it. i.e., they would
actually has some desire to want to put in the effort. i.e., if, say, I
ever do become a good composer I wouldn't want them to look back on my work
and say "Oh, his first piece was total crap". or something like that. I
don't mind them saying something like "his first pieces are not great" but I
wouldn't want them to call it crap ;/ cause it would hurt my feelings ;)
Seriously though I guess I see what your saying. I'll work on it some more
and try to finish it up musically then work on the notational and
performance problems and see what happens. Maybe in a week or two I'll
finish it. What I really want though if I do finish it is to be able to hear
it being played by a real piano by someone that knows what they are doing
but I'd also like for them to enjoy playing it to.
I just don't feel comfortable writing peices yet
even if they are not perfect. I think maybe I just got lucky on this
piece for some reason and not sure if I could do it again. (even if its
not great I do feel its much better than what I have done prior).
It is. And you might be able to do it again. You just have to try. I think
you feel that nothing should be thrown away. Beethoven through out plenty
of stuff. I mean, you've got to work within your limits, and know when a
piece is finished, can be finished, or should remain a draft (experiment).
yeah, maybe. I'm ultimately a perfectionist and sometimes it drives me in
strange ways. I'm working on getting over that(not that its bad but its bad
in the sense that it can stop me from making much progress).
I'll try and finish it up and stuff and do all the things we discussed then
I'll post something that I think is final and we can take a look at how well
I did ;)
Thanks,
Jon
