That's incorrect information.

Rather than compare finding a player in the future to read these to finding a vinyl or
cassette player you should pick another analogy. They probably won't
be much harder to find a player for than an IBM 8" SSSD floppy disc,
for example. That's actually easier to find than a working Elcassette
player, but dozens of manufacturers made those, and only Sony made the
Elcassette.

I've bought five portable players and one recording deck within the
last year. I fully expect them to become scarcer. I'm also planning on
picking up at least one more deck and probably several more portables
in the coming months.

It escapes me why if you're backing up CDs at all you wouldn't back
them up to the most common and cheapest medium available, which would
of course be blank CDs.

Well, for one thing, I have about 5000-7000 albums worth of material
currently taking up the space that around 600 or so CDs would. That
means something to me. Being able to walk around with a pocket-sized
player with a format that can hold up to 5+ hours of material on it
(though usually more like 2 1/2) also appeals to me.

Some people like to spend money on the best possible sound money can
buy. I like to spend my money on the maximum amount of music I can
buy. And compacting it to the smallest possible space appeals to me.
And I personally am more than happy with the sound quality I'm getting
from my choice.
