i knew what you meant by good service, and that's what i was referring
to when i said i provided good service as best as i knew how, save the
part about being dishonest to my coworkers about how much $ i made in a
day and/or fabricating problems in the kitchen to butter up the
customer.

my point is that tipping comes down to the discretion of the customer,
who may be influenced one way or another by the quality of the service
but is also likely to walk into the restaurant with their own personal
philosophy about how to tip, and as you can see from this thread those
philosophies can vary.
