Interesting post as this has been on my mind somewhat. I like to
pretend I don;t care about this, but as I do work in the film biz, this
topic is unavoidable in almost all conversations in work, out at the
bars, and even in the gym. Funny to see it popping up here. The vibe
I'm getting here amongst "industry" peeps in LA, is that BROKEBACK is
going to clean up. I still have yet to see this film. Not because I
don;t like westerns (i love a good one) or because of any homophobic
reason, but just for the same reason that it doesn;t look to me like
the type fo movie I *need* to drop $10+ on to see in a theater.
I did see GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK this past weekend and was very
impressed. It bothers me though that there is barely any talk about
this one or MUNICH which I thought were both incredible films. These
two films are set in the past but the points they make and issues they
raise are without a doubt a comment on how things are in the world
today. Movies that do more then just entertain or tell a tale, but
transcend and comment on our government, our world, are ones that I
believe to be worthy of Oscar. But its really just a stupid sham.
Just like a few yrs ago it was the award year for Blacks with Denzel,
and Halle winning, this year (I predict) is the year for Gays, and it
will be BROKEBACK, Felcitiy Huffman, and P.S.Hoffman.
