I use ubuntu with gnome. My laptop runs freebsd with gnome (not linux but
BSD is sweet too). I love using it daily...although i still have XP

synaptic is genius. The ports collection for freebsd does the same thing
with just a little more command line familiarity. It does 99% of what my
windows box did...and with vmware i can run win2000 in linux to do the
rest. I'd be happy to help with questions...
Cool. And these Q's open to anybody. What do you prefer to use for....
Ripping CDs? Editing CD image into tracks? Burning CDs? Ripping DVDs? Burning DVDs?
Any preferred html editors? WiFi/Ethernet managers?
Ever record (live) music to HD via USB?
Do you think vmware will run something like Turbo Tax (tis the season)?
So far my Toshiba laptop is running smooth with Kubuntu (5.10) - only three days. Some of the fonts are little weird but I can add more and change that - I'd prefer to have the UI be as Windows-similar as possible, not because Windows is great, just because I use it everyday at work and I might as well interface as close to that as possible.
Thanks.
Matt .
