thinker topic of the day # 6

just stumbled upon this one last night as I was falling asleep...

"writing to your decendants"

here's a thought for you. if google continues to run these groups and
our words continue to be posted to google's servers, pending any major
breakdown or loss of data would it be safe to assume that 100 years
from now the words that we're writing will still be online?

....i'd imagine so, especially since it's been already set into timeline
format ---
http://groups-beta.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=timeline.html

so, if this is the case you could theoretically leave a message for
someone 1-2 hundred years down the road....long after you're gone. are
we all doing it right now whether we like it or not?

the only consideration is whether you're using your full name to post
(make it easier for your kids and grandkids to find you)...also you
could ask google to remove your words and I think there is even a
setting in which they won't archive your postings, check out colonel
forbin.

what are your thoughts on this? your words being locked in for
eternity? I think it's pretty exciting, in a way I could say hi to my
grandkids! hey kids...it's August 2005, I hope you're doing
wonderful!!!
