Re: The rmo-associated upload groups

This is great....it seems almost idiot-proof, but I will let you know when I
try later.

I'm definitely not an Apple guy - I'm entirely prelapsarian..

Many thanks.

I don't know how to do it, and I leave it to the computer genius of ljo
and others, but one thing that would make the listening to me of the
various uploaded tracks easier were if somehow more than one could be
played in sequence without having to go back to the computer each time and
start the process over. In other words, if two or three entries in the
same upload group could be played sequentially (I almost said
simultaneously, which would be interesting it its own way), that would
make it easier.....right now it's like playing old 78s (not that I
remember) and you have to get up and change the side after each one.

Kids these days are spoiled rotten. Here's how to accomplish the above if
your machine is a PC:

1. First create a new folder on your harddrive in a place that you can
find again. Give it an appropriate name like, for example, "The Downloads
I Whined About".

2. Go to the RMU group "Files" page: Right click on the File of interest >
Left click on "Save Target As" > When the "Save As" window pops up locate
that new folder and Select (right click on) it. The File will be saved to
that folder.

3. Repeat that same process for the next File you want to send to that
folder. When you are done you can go to the Save folder and arrange the
files in any sequence by dragging them around if you must be that
finnicky. As Files accumulate you can organize them by creating
sub-folders and dragging Files to them and arranging their sequence for
playing. You can also delete them at any time. If you're an Apple
(Macintosh) guy I can't help you. (I could, actually, but it would be too
much trouble).

And watch whom you call 'computer genius", buster.

ljo, computer guru

I agree a bit as to the timing issue, and for me that's the benefit of
keeping things at 10 minutes or under per upload. I have tried, not
always succesfully, to give people no more than 6 to8 minutes of an
upload....sometimes not possible, but I think that's easiest. Also, I am
learning that for these small uploads, it's actually better to give small
catchy numbers and 'songs' to the extent that it's possible, because,
again, I think it's easier to lock into some recognizable form (and even
recognizable tune) when you are doing and listening to these uploads.

Just a few thoughts. I think these are a splendid idea and it is obvious
to me that quite a few members are enjoying the exchange of recordings
and the discussions that come from them.

However, I have this mental calculation that suggests that the more time
I devote to listening to uploads in these groups and indeed ones in
various Yahoo Groups, the less time I have for listening to CDs and
indeed DVDs. No doubt I shall dip in and out as the mood and the content
takes me.

I just thought that I would put this observation in case my lack of
interest be interpreted as something approaching disapproval.

Even though I am sure me even writing this probably comes across as
pompous and the active up/downloaders don't need my approval But in
principle, I think the groups are a massively positive On-Topic
contribution to rmo. :-)
